Obedience Is Dead without Faith

3 13“In fact, only when we have faith do we truly fulfill the law.”  Romans 3:31

This brings a new meaning to faith in my opinion.  Obedience would be pointless if you didn’t have faith to accompany it.

“Faith without deeds is dead” (James 2:17), but so is obedience without faith.

Obedience without faith produces robotic action with no soul, no passion, no enthusiasm behind it.  Imagine a “romance” without passion or attraction.  If you are in a relationship right now with someone you’re not completely sold out on, why are you with this person?  Is it to escape the feeling of loneliness, just to have a warm body by your side?  Is it just so you can say you’re “in a relationship” so people don’t have to ask you, “Why are you single?”

This is why many people don’t go to church.  First of all, they already see Christians as hypocrites.  I mean, why go if you’re going to do what non-believers do the rest of the 6 days of the week?   I have better things to do with my time than waste two hours listening to a sermon that I’m not going to put into practice.  It would be so much better to not go to church than to pretend like you really care about what the Scriptures say.  All talk, no walk…that’s what church-goers display to the world in a religion without integrity.

However, if you have made the decision to really put the Word into practice, believing in God’s promises is just as important as obedience.  “Without faith, it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6).  Christians who drag their feet to church on a regular basis show the world that there is no joy in following God, yet all over the Scriptures, those who fervently walk in faith are filled with inexpressible joy (1 Peter 1:8; Romans 15:13; Isaiah 35:10; Nehemiah 12:43).  I understand that we all have our bad days and seasons, and we shouldn’t fake happiness when we’re not happy.  However, we have to ask ourselves, is our happiness based on circumstances or is our joy rooted in the Rock that rescues us from every trouble (Psalm 34:19)?

Faith is the blood of life that flows through our veins of obedience.  You cannot have one without the other.
